Design and Manufacture of a Low-noise S-Band Dual-polarization Receiver

Abstract
A low-noise S-band dual-polarization receiver is presented in this paper.It has been designed and manufactured for the the astronomical observation in the Urumqi Observatory.This receiver has a superheterodyne structure.The components of receiver are selected according to the design.The noise parameters of the receiver are analyzed very carfully and assigned reasonably.The authors analyze and select the devices of receiver to meet the design requirements.Effective methods are adopted in the manufacture in order to improve the noise characteristics and the impedance matching of the receiver.Tests with several methods have been applied to the receiver and the results have been compared.Test results agree well with the performance indices as designed.The results show that the design and manufacture of the receiver are very successful.The noise temperature of the receiver is less than 50K, reaching the level of similar receivers abroad.
