A Study of the Ethernet Throughput Performance of the Embedded System

  • An ethernet acceleration solution developed for the Nios Ⅱ Embedded System in astronomical applications-Mason Express is introduced in this paper.By manually constructing the proper network protocol headers and directly driving the hardware, Mason Express goes around the performance bottleneck of the Light Weighted IP stack (LWIP), and achieves up to 90Mb/s unidirectional data throughput rate from the embedded system board to the data collecting computer. With the LWIP stack, the maximum data rate is about 10.57Mb/s. Mason Express is a total software solution and no hardware changes required, neither does it affect the uCOS Ⅱ operating system nor the LWIP stack, and can be implemented with or without any embedded operating systems. It maximally protects the intelligence investment of the users.
