  • Weng Wenbo firstly pointed out that the occurrence of a floodwater has the commensurability, and applied the principle of commensurability to the prediction of large natural hazards. What is the commensurability? The commensurability represents the regulation of the occurrence and development of the event itself, thereby mirroring the internal causes of the development and change of things to a certain extent.Analyzing the floodwaters occurred in the Huaihe River of China since 1827,we find that the occurrence of the floodwaters has the commensurability. The two floodwaters that occurred in the Huaihe River of China in 1991 and 2003 appeared at the points of the commensurable value and golden section of the commensurable value of its time axis, respectively. Thus, the analysis of the commensurability showed that the occurrence of the two floodwaters would be inevitable.
