LEO Satellite Orbit Design for Practical Meteorological Requirements

  • As required by a certain domestic meteorological department, orbit design for a low earth orbiter(LEO) is presented, aiming at as long measurement span as possible from a given region. It shows that the orbit design of a LEO satellite can support occultation footprint to stay over 100-km neighborhood of a given region for about 130 days. Such an orbit design satisfies the requirement for regional atmosphere monitor by GPS radio occultation technique.
