Historical and Cultural Background of the Calendar of Yunnan Minorities

  • Among the rich and varied culture of Yunnan minorities, the so-called Phenology Calendar, the solar calendar, and the lunar calendar had simultaneously existed for a long time, and suited the development of society and economics of various minorities in Yunnan. This phenomenon is closely associated with the migration of nationality. The YUE nation and the QIANG nation of early antiquity migrated to Yunnan as early as the ZHAN-GUO dynasty, possibly even in the New Stone Age. Large-scale migration of nation means migration of their culture, and the migration of nation may either promote the development of their culture or make their culture go backwards, depending on whether the nation draw advanced culture of other nation to develop themselves or not. Regional common cultural phenomena may be formed with the acception of some traditional culture of other nations, and the drum culture is a typical example beside calendar.
