Abstract
The Subaru Telescope is an 8.2-m aperture single mirror telescope on Mauna K ea, Hawii, which aims to achieve very high resolution and high sensitivity observations both in visual and IR waveleng th regions.The project started in 1991 as a nine-years project, and the Subaru Telescope Hilo Facility of NAOJ was established at Hilo, Haw aii in 1997.The status of the const ruction, instruments, and planned observations are reported as well as some hot results from the “first light”in January 1999.
