The Relationship between First X-Class Flare, First High Latitude Sunspot Hemisphere Features and the Asymmetry of Solar Activity during Solar Cycle 21-24

  • Based on the data of solar X-ray flares observed by GOES, the first X-class flare that occurred during solar cycle 21-24 has been picked out and analyzed. Results show that the first high latitude sunspot and the first X-class flare occur in the same hemisphere of the Sun during solar cycle 21-24. It appears to support that if the first X-class flare occurs in one hemisphere of the Sun, then the solar activity is very likely more intense in this hemisphere during the whole cycle. The first X-class flare of solar cycle 24 occurs in the south hemisphere of the Sun, suggesting that solar activities will be more intense in the south hemisphere during the whole solar cycle 24.
