The Initial Results of the Site Test for a Tower Solar Telescope

The observations of the daytime seeing have been made at the five sites selected within 60km from Yunnan Observatory near Kunming City. The five sites belong to four types of topography: a lake side, a mount at a lake side, a reservoir side and mountains. The instrument using for the seeing observation is a 3.5" Questar telescope. The observations were carried out from Dec. in 1980 to May in 1981 when there were many continuous sunny days in Kunming area.The initial results on the analysis and processing of the five-site observations of the solar image at the Macun site on the shore of the Dian Lake are best.This work shows that it is promising to find a good site for a tower solar telescope in the area surrounding Kunming.
