Significance of the Absolute Determination of the Position of A Celestial Body in Low Latftudies

  • The paper relates in brief the method of absolutely determining the position of a celestial body with a traditional meridian circle and its limitation of being not applicable to low latitudes.According to the way of the absolute determination of meridian circle parameters by observing stars with the prime vertical in low latitudes, the possibility and necessity of absolutely determining the position of a celestial body in low latitudes are described. The article also points out that the link of the observations carried out on both the southern and northern hemispheres and the realization of the absolute determination of the positions of stars in the whole zodiac and those of celestial bodies in the solar system with an instrument system are of quite important significance iti improving the fundamental coordinate system of reference and providing necessary data for the researches on the solar system dynamics.
