Space Era's Comets(H)

Three comets colliding with the sun were discovered by the SOLWIND coronagraph on Earth-orbiting satellite during 1979-1981.Six comets were discovered by IRAS in 1983.According to the criteria of both of the scientific significance and the spaceflight technology,Comet Halley is selected as the best target for flyby mission in the 1980's.Five spacecrafts belong to soviet,ESA and Japan arc scheduled to explore Halley's comet on March 6-13,1986.Bui the first encounter with a comet is ICE that will fly through comet Giacobini-Zinner's tail on 1985 September 11 at ll:00 G.M.T.The candidate comets for rendezvous and sample return mission during the 1990's are listed.
