Five-Minute Oscillations in the Solar Continuum

Abstract
The five-minute oscillations in the solar continuum arc analyzed in this paper. The principle for the application the solar continuum to the study of the oscillations in some detail is introduced and the analysis of the observed data is also given. The instrumental response profile is removed by taking the ratio of the intensity observed from the visible continuum to the infrared one at an arbitrary instant to that at a given instant. The effect of the Earth's atmosphere on the data is computed by taking the integration over the wavelengths. The fast Fourier transform is used to get the power spectrum. The modes of the low degree five-minute oscillation are found by investigating the superposed power and time coherence, in the spectrum. By comparing the modes with those established by Harvey and Duvall, it is indicated that there exist the low degree five-minute oscillations in the solar continuum. And finally, the near infrared transmission of atmospheric windows is discussed in the appendix.
