Sunspots at the High Altitude of the Solar Surface

  • Based on the data of the sunspots observed at Yunnan Observatory, the sunspot groups at high altitude (over 40 deg ree)during the solar cycles 19 、20 、21 and 22, and the rising period of the solar cycle 23 have been collected statistically in this paper. The result obtained is that the sunspots at high altitude are charactered with small amount, simple structure and short lifetime, and they can indeed be used to indicate the beginning of a new solar cycle.
