Development and Test of Nodes of Wireless Cable Tension Sensors For the Fast

  • To meet the requirements for measuring the cable tensions of the FAST cable net,we develop a model of wireless cable tension sensor node based on the frequency method. We first discuss the necessity and advantages of applying wireless cable tension sensor for the FAST.We subsequently describe the theoretical bases of cable tension measurement with the frequency method. As the key part of the paper we list certain details of the hardware and software development of the wireless sensor node, which is based on the accelerometer chip MMA7260. Finally, we present results of comparative tests conducted for the FAST wireless cable tension sensor. The test results show that the vibration signals in a cable wire can be effectively detected by the wireless cable sensor, and the cable tension measured is consistent with the base frequency of the vibration. Our work provides an alternative approach for cable tension measurement in the succeeding construction of the FAST.
