A Study of Applications of Scripting Languages in the SVOM Science Center

  • The SVOM is an astronomical satellite under the collaboration between China and France. It is aimed to detect and observe Gamma-ray Bursts at cosmological distances. Proper data processing is essential to achieve the scientific goals of SVOM. Because of their efficiency and flexibility scripting languages can meet the requirements of SVOM science data processing. As an example we present the application of a scripting language Jython in such data processing. We further analyze advantages and applicable areas of scripting languages. We point out certain weakness of scripting languages and suggest several solutions. We conclude that any successful application of scripting languages in SVOM data processing will not only provide a good solution to the development of data processing at the SVOM science center, but also initiate a new approach in astronomical data processing for other space-astronomy projects in China.
