Simulation of Random Phase Screens Formed by Multiple Layers of Atmospheric Turbulence

  • The High-Resolution Image Reconstruction method can diminish effects from turbulent atmosphere and reconstruct the image of object to approach the diffraction limit of the used telescope. However, due to the effect on the isoplanatic patch, when the field of the view about the object is large, a complete diffraction-limited image cannot be reconstructed. A numerical simulation method is proposed here by modeling multiple atmospheric phase screens to take into account the effect on the isoplanatic patch. This method should be applicable to the study of the effect on the isplanatic patch in the high-resolution statistical reconstruction. With this simulation method the speckle images of binary-star systems with separations of 5 and 8 arcseconds are respectively modeled. The reconstructed images for the simulations and real binary-star observations are compared. The results show that the effect modeled by the simulation method is similar to the actual.
