Viewpoints in China on Millisecond (MS) Pulsar Timing

  • Recent research results for pulsar timing around the world are introduced. Then the developments and viewpoints of pulsar t iming research in China are summarized. Some ms pulsars can be used as the natural and high precision frequency standard sources. Long-term stability of ms pulsars Times (PTens) will be improved with increase of observating time. At the same time, it has the virtue of long life-span, stability, credibility and maintenance-free up keep etc. It is benef icial to establish early and timely system network of pulsars clock, which can measure speciality ms pulsars Times (PTens). A 50- meter radio telescope which measures Time of Arrive (TOA) of pulses from pulsars will be built in China. Furthermore, a 500-meter radiotelescope (FAST) is a new project in China. It is thought that the t ime scale of millisecond pulsar is possible to be set up, and that pulsar t ime and atomic time can be contrasted and verified with each other and developed side by side. Long-term stability of the ensemble pulsar time is obviously better than that of atomic time. In time scale research, the method of wavelet analysis is superior to the conventional ones. Finally international cooperat ions are suggested and the prospects of development layout of pulsar time are presented.
