Test of the Shapiro Time Delay of the General Relativity Using the Ground-Deep-Space Laser Ranging

  • The Shapiro time delay in the general relativity is discussed in this paper.According to the project of the Mini-Astrodynamical Space Test of Relativity using Optical Devices,(Mini-ASTROD) the Shapiro time delay in the general relativity is examined using the ground deep-space laser ranging,a scheme that observational values are compared with theoretical ones is given, and the value of the spatial curvature parameter γ is fit out. Some devices such as the saynchronous laser transponder and the Pico-Event-Timer were used to upgrade the precision and the stability of measurement.Directly using laser ranging between ground station and planetary detectors is not only to test Shapiro time delay in the general relativity, but also to improve the uncertainty of one or two orders of magnitude on the determination of γ.It will be of great importance for cosmology and modern theories of gravitation.
