Perturbation Effect of the Earth's Magnetic Field on the Orbital Elements of a Charged Satellite

  • The perturbation effect of the earth's magnetic field on the orbital elements of a charged satellite is further studied. The three orthogonal perturbation components, S.T. W and the perturbation variables of the orbital elements are derived. The results of this study show clearly that this effect results in both the secular and periodic variation of the argument of the perigee and the longitudes of the ascending node. However, the Other orbital elements exhibit no secular, but only periodic variation. The perturbation effect of the Earth'smagnetic field on the orbital elements of a charged Satellite is estimated. It can be shown that this effect must be considered if a satellite brings much charge in the Earth's magnetic field.
