A new method of estimating the metallicity from low resolution spectrum is introduced.This method is perfo rmed with the help of a principal component analysis.The estimated metallicities through our method are consistent with those obtained from high resolution spectra.This result indicates that our method is useful at least in the range of latety pe giants.
