Application of Binocular Stereo Display Technology in Three-Dimensional Visualization of the Moon

  • Based on the lunar terrain data and image data derived from Chang'E-2 probe, we develop a stereo display system of a virtual moon by using the binocular stereo display technology. This paper first introduces the principle of binocular stereo vision, and then discusses the design and implementation methods of the system in detail. Firstly, a framework and the hardware composition of the system are introduced; then organization mode of terrain data and dynamic scheduling for terrain real-time rendering are discussed; to achieve satisfying stereoscopic effect, off-axis model is used for stereoscopic rendering at last. This system plays an important role in science popularization about the Moon and research of lunar surface.
