An Improvement of Laser Ranging Equation in Practical Use

  • In this article a new laser-radar ranging equation is deduced. This equation takes into consideration the tracking jitter of a telescope and the beam jitter caused by atmosphere turbulence. Numerical simulation is applied to the equation on echo intensity; this paper also explores in detail factors such as laser divergence angle, tracking jitter of telescopes and beam jitter caused by atmosphere turbulence. Analyses indicate that both tracking jitter and beam jitter are crucial factors for the performance of a ranging system.
