A Study of Evaluation on Radio Interference of FAST Visitor's Electronic Devices

  • The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST) is of high sensitivity. In order to ensure the normal operation of FAST, the study of evaluation on radio interference (RFI) caused by three electronic devices carried by FAST visitor has been carried out. The electromagnetic radiation measurements of the typical iPad, mobile phone and digital camera have been made at the microwave chamber. Moreover, the theoretical calculation and on-site measurements between the main building, laboratory, viewing platform and FAST feed have also been implemented. Combining the measurement results, the evaluation of the level of RFI generated by these three devices shows that the observation of the telescope will be inferred by these kinds of devices more or less. According to the analysis results, the important reference for controlling the Visitor's electronic devices at the FAST site has been provided.
