Design and Implementation of Android Mobile Interference Management APP for Radio Telescope Station

  • Radio monitoring shows that interference signals generated by mobile communication with base stations may affect radio astronomical observation. Astronomers proposed radio management rules to mitigate radio frequency interference, such as shielding electronic equipment in the station and setting up radio quiet area. However, these rules are difficult to carry out as a result of the high mobility and large quantity of the devices, while setting the mobile on airplane mode or turning off the mobile can reduce the generation of signals. On the basis of airplane mode or shutdown, this paper designs and develops a mobile interference management APP based on Android. The APP can judge whether the mobile is in the radio quiet zone by using mobile positioning technology, and reminds the user to manage his/her mobile, and saves user's operation record in the radio quiet zone. Through analyzing the results of experiments, once a user enters the radio quiet zone, the APP can remind the user to put the mobile on airplane mode or turn off, which could reduce the influence of signals on astronomical observation.
