Research on Measurement Method of Laser Spot Characteristics

  • The quality of the laser spot in the satellite laser ranging system is related to the success of the ranging, and the characteristics of the real laser spot emitted by the telescope is particularly important. In order to accurately measure the characteristics of the laser spot emitted through the telescope, a method for measuring laser spot characteristics is proposed. At first, the laser is irradiated on a diffuse reflection screen at a certain distance. Then we use a CCD camera to receive the diffuse reflection image of the laser spot. At the same time,we use the energy meter installed on the diffuse reflection screen to record the laser energy in the corresponding area of the spot. Finally, the CCD image of the laser spot and the energy distribution of the corresponding area of the spot are combined, and the relevant characteristic parameters of the laser spot are analyzed and calculated. In this paper, the measuring principle, experimental scheme and data processing method are given in detail, and based on the measured data, the parameters such as the laser spot radius, divergence angle, and average energy density distribution, etc are calculated accurately. Experimental results show that this measurement method has the advantages of high measurement accuracy, fast response speed, simple operation, and easy control. Therefore, this measurement method has important prospects of application in laser spot measurement.
