The Solar Physics Division

  • The Solar Physics Division was set up in 1978. The Division now has 36 persons, among whom there are 12 research persons. The main observation research work is as follows: (1) The sunspot drawings (from 1956 on) and photograph observations (from 1970 on) are carried out with a 5-inch Zeiss refraclor; (2) The flare patrol observations are made with a Lyot heliophoto-graph,of which the perture was 14 cm, with an H-Alfa filler of 0.75 Å bandpass (from 1967 to 1982),and from 1982 on the aperture is 18 cm, with an H-Alfa filter of 0.5 A bandpass. (3) The measurements of sunspot magnetic fields (from 1975 on) and SSHG velocity fields of active regions (from 1980 on)are taken with a horizontal solar spectrograph.#br#In recent ten years, the division has researched a series of solar subjects and made a number of achievements,involving the contents such as solar prediction, solar active regions, spiral sunspots, flare prominences (filaments, ancient sunspots, etc.#br#The solar routine observations may be made about 320 days every year at Yunnan Observatory. The seeing of the Sun is good.#br#The division has edited and published "Monthly Solar Activity" since 1981.#br#The division has exchanged the information on solar activities with Meudon Observatory of France through telex since the last period of SMY.#br#The physics of solar active regions is the major research target of the division from now on.
