A Method for Determining the Corrections for the Equinox And Equator by Separating the Disturbing Forces

  • By using the comparison of the tabulated positions calculated from the initial values of the orbital elements of an asteroid with more than 9 observed positions distributing on the whole orbit of the asteroid and separating the effects of the disturbing forces of the other objects of the solar system on the position and velocity of the asteroid, one can find the corrections for the zero points, the corrections for the orbital elements of the asterod and the Earth and the corrections for the position and velocity of the asteroid caused by the disturbing forces. The advantages of the new method are:(1) The tabulated position can be calculated only by using the initial values of the orbital elements, thereby avoiding the effects of the imperfection of the kinetic theory of asteroids on the, determination of the corrections for the equinox.and equator,(2) The effects of the disturbing forces on the position and velocity of the asteroid can be found alone, and the true position of the asteroid at any time can also be found by means of the numerical integration of the disturbing function.
