Some Features During the Solar Maximum Years of the 22nd Cycle

  • Important features have been studied for the solar maximum years of the 22nd cycle in this paper. The results are as follows: 1) The cycle of solar 22 appears a double-peak in time distribution of relative number of sunspots and there is a greater change in sunspot areas than that in relative number of sunspots and a single peak appears between the two ‘humpes’ in the time distribution. From our statistics on the X-ray bursts with the greater importance than class M, one can find that the double-peak of the X-ray bursts is prominent.2) By comparing both maximum values of the sunspot area and the realative number of sunspots, it is found that there are 58.33%, 16.67% and 25% respectively for the former that falls behind, keeps in synchronous change and has not any correspondency with the latter. This is not consistent with the conclusion about the maximum values of the former are delay from that of the latter.3) Eighty-seven sunspot groups which locate in the latitudes of more than 30 ° and present a penumbra structure have been observed since the October in 1986. There are 53 active regions appeared during the maximum years and they are 60.92% of the total regions of 87. There are also 18 active regions in which X-ray bursts greater than class M happened ever; they occupy 20.69% of the total active regions. This is not consistent with the well-known ‘butterfly diagram’.
