A Study of the Correlation of Lunar Nodal Tides with Global High-Magnitude Earthquakes

  • In order to deeply study the relationship between celestial tide-generating forces and earthquakes, we statistically analyze the ascending-node ecliptic longitudes for the moon at the times of all the earthquakes of M≥7.0 from 1900 to 2000 using a method based on our previous research. The method divides the terrestrial surface region with high-magnitude earthquakes into major seismic belts and regions according to the levels of seismic activities. Our analyses reveal that lunar nodal tides are highly likely among the important astronomical factors of the seismic activities of global major seismic regions. Our study thus enriches results of relevant studies of relationships between celestial tide-generating forces and earthquakes. It is worth to carry out further studies along the line of this paper.
